In the Woods

Winner of the 2007 Edgar Award for the best first novel by an author, In the Woods is the mesmerizing tale of a young girl's murder in the same woods near Dublin where two children had disappeared twenty years ago.  They were the best friends of Detective Rob Ryan, who has no memory of what happened that day or how he managed to survive.  His partner and closest friend Cassie is the only cop on the murder squad who knows the complete story of his past.

The girl's body is found on a sacrificial stone in the middle of a controversial archeological dig.  The government plans to route a new highway through these ancient burial grounds, pleasing those residents who want the commerce more traffic will bring and raising the hackles of the archeologists and citizens who feel the site should be preserved.  Is the murderer one of those angry protesters or the killer responsible for the death of Rob's friends?
