This is your ticket to a nostalgic musical journey
The modern folk group Lord Huron came back on my radar this summer when I listened to a clip from their new album, Long Lost, on NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts. I first discovered this group because of their Michigan roots, and the best word that I can come up with to convey their music is atmospheric. Listening to this group transports me to another time or place. This really comes through in the fourth studio album, as it was created in response to the lockdowns of the pandemic. Long Lost is based on a four-part streaming show called Alive from Whispering Pines that included live virtual performances. Lord Huron introduces a fictitious multiverse in which the instrumentation, singing and lyrics combine to convey a sense of nostalgia. The songs cover the emotional range of grief, regret, longing, love and gratitude. Listening to it is like hearing the soundtrack to a movie – one that I would gladly watch.
