Youth Cards
Children up to age 18 may have their own CADL memberships. So that we can provide services to as many young people as possible, we offer several types of cards.
About Youth Memberships
A four-year Youth Card is free for those under age 18 who live in our service area. It can be used to check out items from our branches, place holds in our online catalog, access our digital collection, and use our online education resources.
A parent/legal guardian’s permission is required when applying for a Youth Card. That person:
- Must provide current photo ID and proof of current address
- Must have less than $10 in charges on their own card
- Is financially responsible for anything checked out on the Youth Card
Applying for Youth Membership
There are two ways a parent or guardian can apply for a Youth Card: online or at a branch.
Apply Online
This option is available to both residents and non-residents. Fill out an application for each child who will receive a card. Use the child’s name as the cardholder. After you indicate the child's birth date, a section of the form will become available for the parent or guardian's name and address. After submitting the apllication, you will receive a number that can be used to access digital services and place three holds immediately. Then, within the next 21 days:
- Resident youth must verify by visiting a library with the guardian/parent whose information was submitted on the application. If you do not verify it, the account will expire.
- Non-resident youth must visit a CADL branch with the guardian or parent who submitted the application and purchase a membership. Unless that step is completed, the account will expire.
Apply at a Branch
Resident youth may apply for a Youth Card at any CADL branch, if accompanied by a parent/legal guardian with a current photo ID and proof of address. The card will be good for four years.
Non-resident youth may apply for a Youth card at any CADL branch, if accompanied by a parent/legal guardian. They may purchase a membership.
Youth One Cards
A Youth One card is available for anyone under age 18, even if they don’t reside in our service area. It provides access to our entire digital collection and can also be used to check out one book or magazine at a time from the library. No adult signature is required. Apply for a Youth One card at any CADL branch. (Children who already have a regular Youth Card are not eligible for a Youth One card.)
Student Success Cards
Student Success cards are issued by special arrangement with school districts. Students may check out up to five items at a time including books, magazines and audiobooks. They may also use the digital collection and library public computers. Borrowers are responsible for returning items checked out.
Students may have both a regular Youth card and a Student Success membership.
