April Program Preview
Spring has blossomed at your local library, and we're thrilled to present an enticing lineup of programs for both adults and children, sure to ignite your springtime spirit. We're even here to assist you in getting a jump on your garden plans. Alongside our gardening programs, you can grow, save and share seeds through our seed-sharing library. Throughout April and May, visit participating branches and browse our seed libraries, including the 2024 One Seed, One State selection “Mammoth Long Island Dill.” Learn more about our seed offerings at cadl.org/seeds.

Kids & Teen Programming
Get ready for an awesome lineup of events just for kids and teens. Join us to watch the upcoming total solar eclipse, celebrate National Poetry Month, showcase your baking talents in the Great Teen Bakeoff and more.
- April Poet Tree (Dansville) – Help nurture our poet tree during National Poetry Month. Pick poems from the tree and submit a poem for someone else to enjoy. Participants who leave a poem will be entered into a raffle for a gift card to Daily Scoop in Mason.
- Poems in the Park (Haslett and Okemos) – We’re partnering with Meridian Township Parks to celebrate National Poetry Month together. Visit select community parks and watch for different poems to pop up throughout the entire month.
- Great Teen Bake-Off (Okemos) – Calling all teen bakers! Enter your dessert into our competition and be prepared to be judged on appearance, taste and presentation. First and second-place prizes will be awarded in each of the following categories: cookies or cookie bars (no brownies), cupcakes and cake.
Adult Programming
Calling all Michiganders! We’ve got a series of events that celebrate everything that defines us as the Mitten State. Plus, join us for a genealogy workshop, educator training, one-room schoolhouse presentations and more.
- The One True Pop: Faygo (Williamston) – Hear the story of Faygo, Detroit’s beloved soda pop, with author Joe Grimm and taste-test some of Faygo’s iconic flavors.
- The Mighty Mackinaw (Okemos and Leslie) – Author Mike Fornes will host presentations that cover the historic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island and stories of the Mackinaw Bridge.
- One-Room Schoolhouses (Aurelius, Stockbridge and Williamston) – Audrey Martini, from the Ingham County Historical Commission, will present information on Ingham County's rural one-room schoolhouses.
- Genealogy Workshop (Leslie) – Local Historical Expert Tim Howery will show you how to start researching your family history in this comprehensive two-part workshop.
- Author Visit with Mitch Lutzke (Williamston) – Learn about the fascinating history of Williamston with local author and president of the Williamston Depot Museum, Mitch Lutzke.
