Bilingual Storytime with Sandra Centeno
New Bilingual Storytimes at CADL South Lansing
"We live in a society and in a world that is increasingly becoming more diverse. Spanish is one of those languages that is constantly growing in communities. I'd like to introduce Bilingual Storytime to our families, to the children and the community - you know? Take all the beautiful, cultural gifts it has to offer and share it."
This is what Sandra Centeno, storyteller and library clerk at CADL South Lansing, said when asked why they began offering Bilingual Storytimes for their fall programming. This storytime is the first of its kind at CADL, and the program aims to empower young children to learn, imagine and connect.
So, what can one expect at a Bilingual Storytime? Sandra gives us a glimpse in this clip:
Early Literacy Practices
Storytimes and playtimes are a staple in each one of CADL's 13 branches. No two storytime programs are alike, and each one is designed with the library branches community's needs in mind. Storytime programs also incorporate the 5 best practices of early literacy: reading, talking, writing, playing and singing. Sandra treated us to a Spanish children's song during the interview!
Learn Something New
Whether you and your little one speak Spanish, English or both - attending a bilingual program with your little one is a fun way to learn about, and expose yourself to a culture and a language that's new to you.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we invite you to attend a Bilingual Storytime with your little ones or check out Hispanic Heritage Month events at our branches.
