Melissa Crain Receives Director's Award
Melissa is a part-time librarian and the point person for Williamston's Middle School English class outreach. In addition to other duties, Melissa coordinates 17+ class visits per month for grades 6, 7, and 8. Not only does she plan and lead all the visits, she also communicates with teachers on scheduling and instructional topics and delivers holds to the school as needed.
We appreciate Melissa not only for her hard work and dedication to making these visits happen, but for striving to make them effective and impactful. She truly wants the kids to learn how the library works. She’s not afraid to try new activities that will engage students, even if it’s an untried concept or a lot of work. Most recently she had all the classes form teams and do a book scavenger hunt throughout the library.
It can be challenging to connect with middle schoolers but Melissa makes it look easy, with a smile on her face and a good sense of humor.
Congratulations, Melissa!
