Program Preview: December
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Celebrate the holiday season at the library by attending one of the many exciting events we’ve planned this month, including festive celebrations, storytimes and crafting events.
Holiday Celebrations
Get into the holiday spirit with us at our celebratory events! Several of the events feature special animal guests, including reindeer, alpacas and llamas. These events are designed to provide an engaging experience for attendees of all ages, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of these wonderful animals.
- Llama, Llama Holiday O-Rama – Corky DuBois with Emerald Glen Farm is visiting the Lansing libraries and they’re bringing some llamas to help celebrate the holidays with no drama!
- Alpacas for the Holidays – Special guests from Great Valley Longnecks Farm will be visiting select branches to help us celebrate the season.
- Reindeer Visit – Special guests from Rooftop Landing Reindeer Farm will be stopping by select branches.
- Snowman Celebration (Okemos) – Join us to make some crafts, play some games and celebrate winter! We’ll also build a snowman (weather permitting).
- A Book to Buy for Every Reader (Holt-Delhi) – Finish your holiday shopping by finding a recently published book for any kind of reader. Public Services Librarian Kat will talk about a wide range of books and make recommendations.
- Holiday Wrap-Up Party (Leslie) – Bring your gifts and join your fellow holiday present wrappers in a joyful space of large tables, holiday music and refreshments.

Storytimes
Our librarians are bringing the holly jolly spirit to their storytimes! Gather around as they read heartwarming holiday tales.
- Holiday Storytime Series (Dansville) – Join us for stories, songs and activities that highlight the many cultural celebrations that take place in December.
- Holiday Family Storytime Series (Stockbridge) – Enjoy holiday-themed stories, songs, crafts and activities to help build early literacy skills.
- Holiday Storytime (Foster) – Join us for holiday stories and fun activities during this special storytime.
- Family PJ Holiday Storytime (Williamston) – Engaging stories, songs and activities to help build early literacy skills – in your pjs!
- Jingle Bells Preschool Storytime (Mason) – Enjoy a holiday storytime full of jingle fun with Miss Lindsay.
- Holiday Movers & Readers Storytime (Mason) – Enjoy holiday songs, rhymes and stories with Miss Lindsay.
- Miss Joye’s Christmas Tales (Leslie) – Come enjoy a candy cane, make a holiday craft and listen to Miss Joye’s favorite Christmas stories.
Crafting Events
It’s time to deck the halls with handmade creations! From making gingerbread houses to painting classic holiday characters, we have craft events for members of all ages.
- Make a Gingerbread House – Build and decorate your own gingerbread house using graham crackers, candy and frosting.
- Giant 3D Snowflakes – Join us at CADL Okemos to create beautiful, giant 3D snowflakes that can be hung from the ceiling or used as a wall decoration.
- Apron Decorating – Decorate white fabric aprons at CADL Holt-Delhi. Perfect for helping in the kitchen!
- Cookie Decorating – Decorate a holiday-themed sugar cookie at CADL Williamston and the Williamston Area Senior Center.
- DIY Holiday Drawstring Gift Bags – Join us at CADL Okemos to hand-draw a small cotton drawstring pouch.
- Holiday Painting – Join us at CADL Haslett to create a special Grinch-inspired canvas painting using acrylic paint and a pre-draw design.
- Do You Want to Paint a (Holiday) Snowman? – Paint your own winter scene of a snowperson at CADL Downtown Lansing.
- Hallmark Holiday Movie Craft Night – Come to CADL Williamston to wrap gifts, make a craft and enjoy refreshments and games while watching a cheesy holiday movie.
- Homemade Holiday Mason Jar Gifts – Need a gift for the holidays? Don’t break the bank and join us at CADL Holt-Delhi to create a gift your friends will love.
- Drop-in Craft: Gratitude Ornament – Join us at CADL Downtown Lansing to make holiday gratitude ornaments.
- Winter Solstice Pine Tree Lantern – Drop-in at CADL Foster to create an LED tealight pine tree lantern to celebrate the winter solstice.
- Drop-in Toy Workshop – Create the perfect gift and paint a car crafted out of wood at CADL Leslie.
