Program Preview: September
The fall season is fast approaching, signaling the beginning of cooler temperatures, the sound of crunching leaves underfoot and all things pumpkin spice. Not only that, but it beckons a new batch of programs at your library.
We have several fun and flavorful events planned this September that are guaranteed to get you excited for the upcoming season. Keep reading to learn about Fall Flavors, performances and presentations, storytime and educational programming. Events that have already taken place are noted below.
Fall Flavors
We’ve partnered with local businesses to bring a taste of fall to several of our branches.
- Decorating Groovy Donuts - Groovy Donuts will be on hand to offer donut decorating! All supplies will be provided, and you can eat or take home your own decorated donut.
- Maple Syrup Making - Learn how to tap a sugar maple tree, boil sap to make syrup and more. Then enjoy some ice cream topped with maple syrup.
- Strange Matter Coffee – Enjoy a sampling of coffee and donuts while learning about the history and future of their popular coffee shop. This event has already taken place.

Storytimes
We have a lineup of storytimes featuring guests from years past, live animals and more. Our storytimes are a great way for children to develop important literacy and pre-reading skills as well as imagination, comprehension and attention skills.
- Anne of Green Gables Royal Tea Party – Enjoy a brief presentation on Anne’s world, games, activities and light refreshments. One of our librarians will even be dressed as L. M. Montgomery’s beloved red-headed heroine.
- Donuts & Storytime – Bring the kids to the library for stories and activities and the whole family can enjoy donuts and juice! Each week we'll celebrate a different theme.
- Donkey Storytime – As part of Farmer Field Days, join us for a special donkey storytime guest starring real donkeys from Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue! Meet us at Choice Farmer Market or catch a shuttle from downtown Webberville.
- Royal Tea Party – Don your fanciest attire for stories, snacks, crafts and a sword-fighting demo presented by members of the Society for Creative Anachronism. This event has already taken place.

Storytime with Llamas – Join us at The Willowicke Inn, 251 Noble Road, to meet llamas, listen to stories and enjoy the beautiful setting. This event has already taken place.
- Spanish Storytime – Join us for stories, songs and rhymes in Spanish. This event has already taken place.

Special Guests
Join us at the library for special presentations and performances.
- Local Author Visit – Come to the library to hear about "Jan’s Journey: A Portrait to Last a Hundred Years" by local author Bill Blanchard. This event has already taken place.
- A Peek into the Past – Ingham County One-Room Schoolhouse expert Audrey Martini will discuss the amazing history behind one-room schoolhouses in the Leslie area. This event has already taken place.
- Joel Tacey Magical Comedy Show – Start the Leslie Fall Festival with a wild show filled with amazing magic, dazzling juggling, goofy stunts and lots of audience participation. This event has already taken place.
- Pave the Way - The I-496 Project – The Historical Society of Greater Lansing presents “They Even Took Dirt,” a one-hour documentary that tells the crushing story of the destruction of a thriving African American neighborhood on Lansing’s westside in the 1960s. This event has already taken place.
Educational
School’s back in session and we’re offering events to help students and educators have a successful year.
- Student Success Challenge – Use your Student Success, Youth or Youth One account to check out an item or access digital resources and receive a free back-to-school gift.
- Student Success Initiative: Library Resources for Students & Educators – Learn about our SSI cards and the free resources available to students and educators. Interested participants can earn one SCECH per session. This event has already taken place.
