What's Happening at CADL Haslett?
Albert Einstein once said, “in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
This past year with COVID-19 has been difficult to say the least. It was an interesting time to begin my new role as Head Librarian of CADL Haslett. Libraries are inherently community-oriented institutions. We connect people to one another through our events, services and spaces. We provide access to shared resources that the entire community can use.
Navigating through a pandemic, where we can't organize gatherings and can’t easily allow access to our resources, has been difficult. But amongst those difficulties there have been opportunities to find new ways to connect. Whether it is through contactless pickups, virtual storytimes, take home crafts, hotspot and Chromebook lending, or our Grab & Go service, we have been finding new ways to create access and connections for our community.
At the Haslett Branch we give out 150 crafts a week with our Storytime To Go kits and assemble over 150 Grab & Go bags based on your reading preferences every month. We have encouraged art projects though a Fairy House Trail with the Harris Nature Center and explored the globe with our Geography To Go kits. This year we look forward to continuing to encourage a culture of creation, learning, literacy and collaboration in our communities by building on those early successes and finding new opportunities amongst the difficulties that come with staying safe during this pandemic.
Let’s make 2021 the best year it can be! Keep an eye out at the library for fun activities and surprises and join us to find the hidden opportunities.
