You Should Be Crafting...
According to this 2021 Newsweek article there are lots of benefits to crafting for adults. Arts and crafts can...
- Help reduce the risk of cognative impairment
- Cope with stress
- Boost self-esteem
- Reduce pain
- Encourage communication
The Scholastic Parents newsletter lists more benefits of crafting for kids. For younger children it helps with counting and pattern recognition and teaches shapes and colors. For older kids and teens, it encourages critical thinking, encourages a creative mindset, and develops patience. And you thought a ball of yarn and some needles was just knitting.
CADL Stockbridge will begin offering several opportunities for adults and kids to be creative with hands-on activities at the library or to take home.
Older kids can swing by every week for a new Take & Make kit with a craft, science or board game theme. Younger kids can enjoy a storytime themed kit.
Everybody can enjoy these activities; a library card is not required.
We’re also excited to begin hosting a twice a month fiber arts group, Keep Calm and Carry Yarn. Bring your own project to work on.
Every Thursday afternoon we have science activities available. On the second Friday of the month and the following Saturday we are offering a drop-in craft project. Give us a call for more information, we hope to see you here!
