Place a hold on an item so that you can pick it up later from the branch of your choice.

Please note that there is a delay between placing a hold and when the branch receives it or can have it ready.

To place a hold on an item:

• Log into your library account on the CADL website
• Use the search to find the item you are looking for
• Once you have the item on screen, click the “Place Hold” button
• Confirm which branch you’d like the item sent to and click the “Submit Hold Request” button
• A notice will come up on the screen confirming your hold, and letting you know that you’ll receive a notification when it is ready
• Wait for your ready notification and then visit the library to pick up your holds

Alternatively, if you are already at the page for the item you’d like, you can:

• Click the Place Hold button
• Login to your account
• Confirm which branch you’d like to pick up at
• Wait for your ready notification and then visit the library to pick up your holds

Ever had your book or movie arrive at the library while you were away, then lose your place in line? With this feature, you can "freeze" your hold temporarily. We'll just skip over your name for that item until you "thaw" it.

To freeze a hold or holds:

• Navigate to “Titles on Hold” through your account menu.
• For any holds that can be frozen, there will be a “Freeze Hold” button under the “Cancel Hold” button. 
• To Freeze a hold, click this button to freeze that specific hold.
• To freeze multiple holds, click the small selection box to the left of the title, and then use the “Freeze Selected” button at the bottom of the screen. You can also use the “Freeze All” button at the bottom of the screen to freeze any holds which can be frozen. 
• A window will popup; select a date for when you would like your hold(s) thawed, and then click “Freeze Hold” to complete the action.

The “Freeze Hold” button will change to a “Thaw Hold” button for any holds you have frozen. 

To thaw a hold or holds:

• For individual holds, click the “Thaw Hold” button in that title’s entry in your list of holds. 
• To thaw multiple holds, click the small selection box to the left of the title, and then use the “Thaw Selected” button at the bottom of the screen. You can also use the “Thaw All” button at the bottom of the screen to thaw any holds which can be thawed. 

Please note: You can only freeze holds when you are on a waiting list. If there is no waitlist or the hold is "in transit" or ready to pick up, you won't be able to freeze it. You also cannot freeze MeLCat requests.

To keep and view a record of materials you have checked out, you can activate the Reading History feature in your account.

Reading History keeps a record of the items you have checked out through your account.

By default, your reading history will not start tracking until you opt into it. You can do this through your My Account page once logged in.

• Click your username or user icon in the top right and then select Reading History from the menu options.
• From there you will find a description of the “My Reading History” feature. If you understand and agree to the terms, you can start using the feature by clicking “Start Recording My Reading History”.

When you first turn on this feature, it will try to import recorded history from the previous catalog if you had it turned on in the past.

You can always delete your recorded history up to the present with the “Delete All” option at the top below the “My Reading History” title.

If you want to permanently erase all history and stop tracking history for the future, use the “Stop Recording My Reading History” option. This action cannot be undone, and the system will prompt you to confirm your decision.

Once logged in, click your username or user icon in the top right and then select Reading History from the menu options.

On the “My Reading History” page, there is an option below the page title to “Export to CSV”. Clicking on this option will download a CSV file with a list of your Reading History.  You can open this file with Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or similar software.

When logged into your account, there are two ways to create a list.

Create a list through Your Account:

• The first is to click your username or user icon in the top right and then select Your Lists from the menu options.
• Once you are on the Your Lists page, click “Create a New List”.
• Add a list title, give it a description if you would like, and set the access. Note that “Public” does not mean your list will be searchable or available to the general public, it only means you will have options to share the list.
• Click “Create List” to finish creating your list.

Create a list from a title:

• The second is to create the list on the fly while you are browsing materials.
• When you are on the title’s information page, click the “Add to List” button.
• You’ll be able to choose from your already created lists in the drop-down menu or click the “Create a New List” button to create a new one right there.
• Once you have finished creating the list, the title will be automatically added to it.

To view your lists, you must be logged in. Once logged in, click your username or user icon in the top right and then select Your Lists from the menu options.

This will take you to the Your Lists page, where you can view or edit your lists.

When logged into your account, click your username or user icon in the top right and then select Your Lists from the menu options.

Once on the Your Lists page, click on the “Import From Old Catalog” button.

If you want to save a search so that you can easily run it again, or so that you can have live updates for when new items are added based on your desired criteria, you can use the Saved Searches feature.

First, start by searching for something using the main search bar near the top of the screen. Then, add any other criteria with the additional facets available through the “Narrow Your Results” menu options list.

Once you have all the facets you’d like selected, under the “Search Tools” drop-down menu, select “Save Search”.

A window will appear that will you show the facets you selected. Enter a name for your search in the available box and then click Save.

While logged in, click your username or user icon in the top right, and then select “Your Searches” from the menu options.

This will take you to a page with all your Saved Searches at the top. You can view the search results by clicking on the name of the search in blue. Or you can delete the search under the Delete column.

This page will also show any recent searches you made and give you the option to save them by clicking the “Save” button in the last column.

You can wipe clear all your unsaved searches with the “Delete my unsaved searches” button at the bottom of the page.
