Hoopla Digital Service Adjustments

Although it is free for members to use, Capital Area District Libraries pays a fee of up to $3.99 for every hoopla checkout. With CADL members checking out more than 19,000 hoopla items each month, costs add up quickly.

Earlier this year, we implemented a price cap on Hoopla content to manage expenses and maintain consistent and equitable access to a wide range of instantly available digital content in Hoopla. As a result, some content was no longer available.

Since then, our members have let us know they have a strong preference to have access to a wider variety of popular content, like high-demand audiobooks, even if it means fewer checkouts. Beginning December 2, we’ll be restoring access to some of the more expensive and desirable content. This means some of the most popular Hoopla content you have been missing will be back, but your check outs will be reduced from 12 to 8 per month.
