Read
Reading with children is the single most important way to help them get ready to read. It develops vocabulary and comprehension, and helps children learn the meaning of less common words.
Tips
- Create a special space for your child to look at books. A comfortable chair or pillows and a small shelf or basket are all that are needed.
- Keep a list of your favorite library books and authors.
- Look for books related to your child's interests.
Activities
- Read an alphabet book.
- Rhyme words in a book.
- Point to the words in the title and repeated phrases in a book as you read them.
