Local Music Collection
We are working to build a collection of local music and related materials in the Forest Parke Library & Archives (Local History) at CADL, and you can help!
Contribute Your Materials
We're searching for materials like:
- Audio recordings (in any format)
- Video recordings of music performances and interviews
- Music-related zines and other publications
- Photographs and negatives
- Event flyers and posters
- Physical ephemera and small merch such as tickets, setlists, buttons, stickers, etc.
- Business records of studios, festivals, venues, record stores, and radio stations
- Personal records of musicians, composers, and others in the industry
If you have physical materials, please get in touch about how to donate. Call us at 517-367-6313, or email localhistory@cadl.org. You can also stop in during Local History open hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We also accept digital files. Submit photographs, documents, and video/audio recordings online here.
Occasionally, Local History has a small amount of funds to purchase music directly from artists, record labels, and other creators. Please note that because of rights issues, we are not able to purchase personal collections of local music except in rare circumstances.
Access the Collection
Patrons can feel free to visit during our open hours to view the collection, which currently sits at around 200 physical releases, augmented by many additional pieces of ephemera (flyers, setlists, t-shirts and other merch items, live video, and more).
CADL Local History's music collection is also available online in a limited fashion. Patrons can view an inventory of the physical releases we have collected so far on our Discogs. Our wantlist is also publically available, and while not comprehensive, it is a great starting point for those looking for even more local music. We also periodically upload rips of rare, physical-only local releases to our YouTube channel.
In the News
WKAR wrote a story about our music project (June 4, 2024).
