The Night Bookmobile

A Winnebago camper that holds every book you’ve ever read and blares out songs from your past…like Rock Lobster from the B52’s!

Alexandra is walking the streets of Chicago in the middle of one summer night, when she stumbles upon a camper with books and a kind librarian who manages this bookmobile of sorts. This library is open dusk to dawn and jarringly only collects books, diaries and even telephone books that Alexandra has read. Enchanted, she returns every night hoping to board the bookmobile once again, but sadly cannot find it. Chunks of years go by when she unexpectedly runs into it again and begs the librarian to employ her, but alas, it is out of the question. This graphic novel and short story gnaws at what it means to fixate on the past, while still wishing for a future. Niffenegger both writes and illustrates this dreamy text as the first volume in a larger project, so stay tuned.
