Michelle Sanderson is recovering from injuries, suffering from PTSD. And to that her mother died while she was in the hospital after ten years of running the Inn Michelle owns into the ground, and now Michelle has to work with her ex-best friend, Carly to rebuild it. And it was the relationships with her parents, Carly, and a shared high school boyfriend that had Michelle running into the Army in the first place. The relationship between Michelle and Carly is complex, painful and funny—sometimes all at once. And as hard as I found it to read through some of the self-destructive points in Michelle’s story, I was pleased with depth of the characters and the added touch of both humor and romance. At its heart Barefoot Season is about friendship, letting go, and finding your strength. This is a story that should please Mallery's devoted Romance readership as well as fans of Debbie Macomber, Sheryl Woods, and Susan Wiggs.
