“It’s time to create a New American Dream that is based in honesty, authenticity, good intentions, and genuine need.”
Like many people, each year I make a New Year’s resolution. This year I was resolved to become more financially healthy. As a result, I sought out the book The Money Class by Suze Orman. Having previously read The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous, and Broke, I was curious to find out Orman’s advice for these new and challenging economic times.
The Money Class is organized into 8 classes, each focusing on an aspect of one’s financial life, and each class is broken down into lessons. It covers a lot of ground and the writing and organization is highly readable and accessible. Her approach is two-fold: it is radical and eye-opening in the sense that she bases her premise on the revision of that long held ideal “The American Dream;” and it is highly conservative in the sense that she urges people towards financial security with the message “live below your means but within your needs.” Orman wants people to take personal responsibility for their financial health because we can no longer expect it to be taken care of for us. I really enjoyed The Money Class and highly recommend it to anyone seeking to manage and gain a better understanding of their financial health.
