I have never been a fan of reading short story collections simply due to the fact that I enjoy the drawn out and sustained narrative created by a novel. After reading J.D. Salinger’s fantastic Franny and Zooey, I was eager to read more from this well-known reclusive writer. I chose to read the short story collection Nine Stories and I was extremely impressed. As titled it contained 9 quirky, unusual, sad, funny and original stories each centering on the interactions between people. Salinger’s use of dialogue and language was unique in his time, but his stories are so well written that they retain their freshness. Each story equally draws the reader in and leaves them more often than not baffled, but still wanting more.
