This last work by Octavia E. Butler presents a unique re-imagining of vampire mythology. She introduces the Ina which live in small communities in a symbiotic relationship with human families. Shori is the lone amnesiac survivor of a brutal attack on her home searching for her memories. This novel is haunting, unique, and has stronger ties to science fiction and literary fiction than the traditional gothic horror vampire.
