I love Connie Willis for her humor, her craftsmanship, and her ideas and all are on display in this anthology of 10 award winning stories. I laughed out loud over “At the Rialto” and “The Soul Selects Her Own Society.” And I’ve previously recommended the novella Inside Job for the same reason. (Staff Pick) “Fire Watch” was her first story featuring the time-traveling history department of Oxford University, which also appeared in Doomsday Book and Blackout/All Clear. “The Winds of Marble Arch” was wonderfully haunting. “Even the Queen” is a hilarious story dealing with “women’s issues.” Each has an interesting afterword from Willis, and the collection concludes with a few of her speeches. This is a fabulous collection for either longtime fans or people just discovering her work! Read it!
