This is a fascinating and horrifying biography of a 19th Century anatomist whose research turns to the composition of the unexplained, combined with the codex bringing together his research on fantastic animals. This is a great, imaginative debut with fabulous graphics. Fans of The Thackery T. Lambshead Cabinet of Curiosities edited by Ann & Jeff VanderMeer or Marie Brennan’s A Natural History of Dragons: a memoir by Lady Trent should give this a shot.
