Kind of Blue

Trumpeter Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue is arguably one of the greatest Jazz records ever produced.  It has definitely stood the test of time.  Originally released in 1959, it is recognized as the best selling jazz recording of all-time.

However, I don’t have to be convinced.  It is definitely my favorite jazz album.  In addition to Davis, it features other jazz greats such as Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, and Bill Evans. 

I love this recording primarily because of its versatility.  The album is aptly named, because it gives listeners exactly what the title states.  The music is kind of blue, but not too blue.  It can simultaneously evoke happy, calm and melancholy feelings.  My favorite track is “All Blues.”
