The Story of Charlotte's Web

I can't be alone in this: I will read interviews with authors of books I have no intention of reading. I will listen to the commentary track about a movie that I find uninteresting. I will watch a documentary about a band that I don't really like. I'm fascinated by the creation of things, regardless of the finished product. So to find a book about the writing of Charlotte's Web, one of the most poetic, compassionate and let's face it gut-wrenching children's books of all time, is a total jackpot.

 

Author Michael Sims has done his research and shares it here in anecdotes about E.B. White's childhood, his early days at the New Yorker, and yes, even the nest of spiders that he grew in a hairbrush while in the early stages of what would become his masterpiece. This book is a find for anyone who loves Charlotte's Web, or those of you who simply admire the creative mind at work.
