Nightbird

This book is just you would imagine a middle grade Alice Hoffman book to be. Twig lives in a quiet New England town, isolated by her family's strictly held secret. When the fabled witch's family moves back in next door, she suddenly finds herself faced with friends and a quest to break a curse. This story is filled with the sort of magic that lurks just out of a sight in an old-fashioned herb garden and a clear summer's night. The ending might be too predictably happy for some adults, but Nightbird is a charming story for its intended audience.
