The Book of Life

I am all for more multicultural children’s media, so I was really happy when I saw this movie. It was an exciting and engaging introduction into Mexican culture, with a fun soundtrack that includes mariachi versions of some familiar songs. The core story follows a young and peaceful bullfighter, his soldier best friend, the brilliant woman they are both in love with, and two gambling gods of the dead. What more could you want, other than perhaps a mischievous piglet? (Don’t worry, the movie has that too!)
