The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

No one knows what is real and what is fantasy except Sally Salt, the bravest girl in a city under siege.

Baron Munchausen is a legendary figure who is ridiculed in a play performed to help a city’s inhabitants forget about the Turks bombarding the crumbling city walls. That is until the real Baron appears on stage and re-accounts his adventures with his sidekicks and their superhuman powers. He proclaims that only he can save the city from the Sultan, but first he must find his sidekicks. Is he a real hero or a fake? Sally, desperate to save her city, stows away on the Baron’s hot air balloon to hold him to his word. What follows are encounters with the man in the moon (played by Robin Williams), the god Vulcan and his wife, Venus, and a monster fish that swallows ships whole. Only Sally can keep the Baron on his mission. Is it all a fantasy and the city is lost, or will the Baron save the city from destruction? Director Terry Gilliam, a member of Monty Python, weaves a delightful, nonsensical tale.
