Girl in a Band

As a teen in the mid-80s, no one was cooler to me than Sonic Youth front woman Kim Gordon. Her steely gaze, musicianship, and impeccable taste-- I was smitten. Years later, I was sorry to hear my favorite celebrity couple, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, were splitting up. However, my sadness was assuaged knowing that Gordon was writing a book.  Girl in a Band is not a gossipy tell-all, but rather an exploration of what it means to be an artist, a mother, and a person in continual transition.  I love that Gordon is still making music, while pursuing her first love of art.  Her paintings sell out immediately.  Anyone familiar with Sonic Youth know they're influenced by art, their album covers are graced by the works of well-known artists, such as: Raymond Pettibon, Mike Kelley, Gerhard Richter, and Marnie Weber.
