The Core of the Sun

I'm a big fan of Scandinavian writers. Stieg Larsson. Hakan Nesser. Johan Theorin. John Ajvide Lindqvist. The stories that seep from these writers are dark, haunted. Haunting. I snatch them up and devour them, a starving literary orphan hungry for more.

Johanna Sinisalo's The Core of The Sun slips right into this dark niche in my mind and makes quick neighbors of the others there, supplying my brain with a jolt of Nordic writing that has become much like a drug for me.

And this drug - this literary crack - has left me topsy-turvy. For Sinisalo's "Finnish Weird" speculative fiction - cum romance - cum mystery/thriller is about as fresh and tasty as they come. This book hit my senses like a seven course meal at the speed of light while I'm lucid dreaming and listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall.

OK, basically, I loved it. I could have just led with that. Should make for a fabulous book club pick!
