The Raven Boys

On the surface, this seems to be a book about five friends who are searching for a sleeping king in the hills of rural Virginia, but there is so much more to it than that. There’s really no good way to summarize everything that is contained in these books, but here are five of the things I personally loved: the juxtaposition of a mystical quest with the everyday worries of high school; the depths of love that each member of the group has for every other member; Chainsaw the raven; the adults and their contributions to the plot and character growth; really loud, fast cars.

Every word in this series is so carefully chosen that, even on your fifth/seventh/twelfth re-read, you notice yet another connection or level of meaning that you’d missed on the fourth/sixth/eleventh read.

And, luckily for you, now that the final book has been published, you can go ahead and (re)read the entire series in one go and find even more layers than before.
