Didn't He Ramble

I love Glen Hansard (Once, Swell Season, etc.)—his use of his amazing range and control especially in his use of dynamics. He can whisper a line to make you weep or belt out to fill a grand hall—shifting between the two mid line. He makes me feel every song whether it’s an homage to his father like “Paying My Way” or his landlady’s dog in “Just to Be the One.” My favorites on this album have to be the opening track “Grace Beneath the Pines,” “McCormak’s Wall,” “and “My Little Ruin.” Fans of Noah Gunderson, Jason Isbell, and Iron and Wine should all find something fabulous here.
