A novel about giant, alien robots? Yes please!
Seventeen years ago, Rose Franklin fell into a giant hole and landed on a giant, glowing metal hand. Today, she leads a top secret team of scientists and military personnel trying to unlock the secrets of the hand and figure out what it may mean for humanity. As more and more pieces are discovered across the world, Rose and her team struggle to balance scientific curiosity with international politics, while their shadowy government contact works on his own agenda in the background.
I love this book for multiple reasons - it’s told through a series of interviews and mission reports which makes it a fast and engaging read; the shadowy government contact is surprisingly funny in his own way; and, most importantly, giant alien robots. I cannot emphasize that enough. It’s like Pacific Rim in a book, but without the “monsters threatening the Earth” part. (For now, anyway. Who knows what will happen in the sequel.)
