Stella by Starlight

Coretta Scott King winner, Draper, received inspiration for this book from her grandma's journal. Through it, she tell the tale of Stella, an 11-year-old African American girl growing up in a segregated South and an often violent reality. The story of her community, her family, and her coming of age, however, are full of hope and love. Great for ages 8-12, and this adult enjoyed too!
