Gailey plays beautifully with a blip in American history when United States government actually considered importing and raising hippos in the swamplands in and around Louisiana to replace the beef industry. (Scientific America article: http://bit.ly/2te0HIN) This is a fabulous wild, violent, revenge story featuring a ragtag and wonderfully diverse crew gathered for a dangerous caper in the marshes of the Mississippi.
