My Cousin Rachel

I cannot deny that I love books that are spooky, gothic, and leaves the reader wondering what really happened. My Cousing Rachel does not disappoint. Philip Ashley is an orphan who lives with and is the heir his beloved cousing Ambrose Ashley, a confirmed bachelor...that is until he meets Rachel. Ambrose dies suddenly and Philip believes under mysterious circumstances. He is convinced that Rachel had something to do with it and is full of resentment and anger until Rachel comes for a visit. The reader is left with lots of questions: Is Rachel a master manipulator and a murderess or a suffering widow? Does Philip's youth and inexperience make him blind to Rachel's true character or does it lead him to misinterpret her kindness and grief. Recommended for anyone who loves Daphne DuMaurier and moody historical mysteries.
