It All Comes Down to This

Sophie and her family are the first African Americans to move to an upper middle class neighborhood in Los Angeles during the summer of 1965.  Sophie, about to enter high school, faces not only being the new kid, but also the ignorance and prejudice of her new neighbors.  Sophie's awareness of race relations is influenced by her housekeeper and a university student involved in the Watt's Riots.  Readers will sympathize with Sophie and consider and question these still relevant social issues.  Best suited for middle school readers.
