Well-deserved Grammy Winner for Best Americana Album in 2019!

Carlile’s sixth album is phenomenal—co-produced by Shooter Jennings, cover art by Scott Avett of the Avett Brothers, and a well-crafted collection of songs. The lead off, “Every Time I hear That Song,” is a gorgeous look at mixed blessings with lyrics that include the album title. “The Mother” looks at that first personal understanding of motherhood. “Hold Out Your Hand” has an interesting Avett feel. And on an all-around strong album, the lead single “The Joke” a song Carlile describes as “for people that feel under-represented, unloved or illegal,” is one of those songs that will always move me, and a live version will bring me to tears—check out the 2019 Grammy performance or the acoustic version on Ellen.
