Author Alana Kysar grew up in Maui and calls upon memories of the food of her childhood as the foundation of this book which is a celebration of what Kysar calls "local Hawai'i food".  A brief history of Hawaiian food is included, including a discussion of the ethnic influences that comprise the cuisine of the author's beloved home state.  First up on my list of recipes to try are Shoyu Chicken and Guava Cake.
