Everyday life during the London Blitz

Can a book be judged by its cover? The eye catching graphics, with the title spelled out using old manual typewriter keys, attracted me to this book. But even the most appealing art won't save a bad book. Fortunately, in this case, the art and the story are equally charming. Emmy Lake is a young working woman living in London in 1940 who dreams of becoming a Lady War Correspondent. When she gets a job at a publishing house, she thinks she is on her way. But as it turns out, the job involves not journalism, but typing letters for the advice columnist of a fading women's magazine. Emmy is moved by the problems people write in about, and dismayed by her employer's brusque relies. She takes matters into her own hands and begins to secretly write back to the readers who are looking for answers to their problems. Emmy's story takes place against the background of the London Blitz, and the writer presents us with a moving picture of how ordinary people found the courage to cope with terror on a daily basis. if you enjoy WWII-era historical fiction, check this one out.
