Great memoir for trekkies
This is a memoir about the unique friendship between two of the science fiction genres most famous icons, William Shatner (Capt. Kirk) and the late Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock). However, things weren’t always so rosy between the two. At the beginning of filming the original Star Trek series, they were just two struggling actors trying to launch their respective careers. Unbeknownst to them, after its cancelation in the late 60’s, this ground-breaking television series took on a life of its own. The overwhelming popularity of the show in syndication gave birth to one the most devoted fandoms in the science fiction universe. Through their involvement in numerous fan conventions as well as starring in six additional Star Trek feature films, Shatner and Nimoy developed a close relationship.
In the words of Mr. Spock, this book is “fascinating”… (imagine his one raised eye brow here). Readers will learn about the early lives of both actors and their circuitous careers. True Star Trek fans will enjoy Shatner’s memories regarding the casting and production of the original series and the subsequent movies. Even if you’re not a Trekkie, Leonard provides a great realistic portrayal of the challenges and struggles of being an actor. So, I would also recommend it to anyone who is interested in embarking on a career in show biz. The audiobook version has the extra added feature of being narrated by William Shatner. Live long and prosper!
