A history of the lakes and man's attempts to improve them.
A good book to read and learn about the Great Lakes. It is a reporter's look into the history of the (waters of) the Great Lakes. He covers how man has reshaped not only access to them via locks and seaways, but also how this access has introduced a myriad of problems for the Lakes in the manner of invasive species. He covers the successes and the ‘disasters’ of man’s attempt to control them. While facts and figures are included, it is written as a ‘story’, and is an easy, interesting read. But it is a long story, meant for multiple reading sessions. Anyone with an interest in the Lakes, in Fishing, or the Environment will benefit from this book.
