I know what you're thinking: who wants to read a book about octopuses? While this came into my world via a reading challenge, I found myself completely immersed in the world of this amazing aquatic being. Montgomery describes her interactions with 3 specific octopuses at the New England Aquarium as well as some choice encounters with wild cephalopods. Because of this book, I learned how smart and compassionate these animals may be. They can solve puzzles and recognize a caregiver even when that person has been absent for a significant period of time. I know non-fiction books about animals that are not dogs or cats can be a hard sell, but give this one a try.
