This is an engaging look at a family who not just survived but prospered through the determination of an empowered and tough enterprising woman. Fannie Davis took a chance on setting up an illegal Numbers business out of her Detroit apartment that would run for 34 years (well after the state lottery was initiated). It not only supported her family but helped to contribute to the community through her generosity. This is a wonderful look at one family’s American experience in the Detroit where my father’s family lived. It was fascinating… and now I have some questions for my dad and aunts.
