This book blew me away with how captivating it is! I could not stop reading, even though by the end, the sound of the pages turning was enough to make me nervous. The book follows four friends, moving its focus from one to the next after each man’s inevitable death, with a final twist in the last section. While the plot of the story follows the revenge narrative, I thought the heart of the story was so much more. From cycles of violence, to racial and sexual microaggressions, to inter- and intra-community tensions, and even “just” everyday life, Stephen Graham Jones shows us four windows into four lives of Blackfeet Indians in the modern US.
(Sensitive readers should know that there is a LOT of gore and violence, and many, many deaths, both human and animal.)
