Love, magic, and survival in WW2
I am a fan of Alice Hoffman because her books are about love with a touch of magic. For me,those two elements go perfectly together. She does not only write about one kind of love, but the many forms that love can take and how that love affects our lives and choices. Hoffman writes a beautiful story about love, magic, and survival in The World That We Knew. It begins in World War 2 Berlin and follows Lea, Ava, and Ettie to France as they try to escape Nazi Germany. Hoffman interweaves the stories of several interconnected characters giving the story depth and dimension. Hoffman shows the sacrifices and choices that people make for love and how it can keep them going amidst the chaos and fear of evil. I recommend this book to anyone who loves stories about love, historical fiction, and/or WW2.
