Another intriguing take on the infinitely remixable Sherlock Holmes canon!
Katherine Addison turns her world-building skills to the Sherlock Holmes stories in this alternate Victorian London. A London where angels protect public buildings, vampires, werewolves, and humans walk through the streets without concern. A London where just the touch of a Fallen angel leaves an indelible curse and a serial killer preys on the prostitutes of Whitechapel.
That’s right. Sherlock Holmes (named Crow in this book) takes on Jack the Ripper. Meanwhile, Watson (Dr. Doyle) struggles with the aftermath of a war wound inflicted by a Fallen angel, while also trying to manage his eccentric new roommate. Addison gives the reader fun twists on old Holmes favorites like “The Speckled Band” and “The Hound of the Baskervilles”, while also weaving in information on how werewolves are treated in this new London, or hidden aspects of vampire society. It’s a fun, and surprisingly fast, read that I think can be enjoyed by Sherlock fans and non-Sherlock fans alike!
