If you like Homeward Bound or The Adventures of Milo and Otis, check out this new graphic novel by Jared Cullum:  Kodi.   Katya befriends a gentle giant Kodiak bear while vacationing in Alaska.  The two are torn apart when Katya must return home to Seattle.   The bulk of the story is Kodi trying to reunite with his friend.  The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is touching.
