How can you find your lanes when people keep trying to tell you which to stay in and out of?

As he gets older, Stephen is realizing that a lot of rules that apply to him don't seem to apply to his white friends, and he is often treated differently even when they are all doing the same thing. What Lane? is a great, quick read showing the hardships of growing up in a racially divided world that I think many kids can relate to. Maldonado's characters seem real and genuine and this book is one I think everyone should read in order to foster more understanding and empathy. That being said, fans of Jason Reynolds' Track series and Jerry Craft's New Kid series will especially enjoy picking this up.
