A glimpse into what life was like for a boy at an Indian residential school

This story follows Saul Indian Horse, an Ojibway boy, who’s taken from his family and placed in a residential school for Indigenous peoples that the Canadian government's Department of Indian Affairs created for the purpose of removing children from the influence of their culture and to assimilate them into the dominant Canadian culture. Saul is denied any of his heritage and is witness to many abuses from the people who were there to protect him. He finds an escape in the unlikeliest of places, the hockey rink. Through his talent and dedication to the sport he is able to get away from the school, but his ghosts of the past are never far behind.
