Sharuko: Archaeologist Julio C. Tello

The amazing story of the first Indigenous archeologist from Peru!

Julio loved to explore from the time he was a small boy, earning him the nickname Sharuko (it means "brave" in Quechua). He grew up to study medicine and archeology. His disproved many theories of the time regarding ancient Peruvian culture and his discoveries promoted deep appreciation of Indigenous culture. This bilingual title is interesting and accessible and is written by a Peruvian American author and illustrated by Peruvian American (and CADL's own Mobile Library artist!) Elisa Chavarri. It's a great example of the interesting things you can learn in a short time with juvenile non-fiction.
