Time to get your comfy movie-watching clothes, grab the Chinese takeout, and then probably call your mom.
Normally when I go in to pick up holds from the library, I beeline to the self-serve shelves to pick up my books, and direct my eyes toward the floor as I make my way to the checkout and eventually out of the door. This time, though, I allowed myself to spend a few minutes browsing the selves of new materials. Maybe it was the pink cover, maybe it was the title (I love movies just as much as the next guy), or maybe the charming photo on the front. Whatever it was, something about it spoke to me, and I had to take it home. A sweet memoir full of relatable sentiment, the pages are full of film background that mixes with family history and new revelations in the relationship between a mother and son. It will make you want to get out your most comfortable movie-watching clothes, grab the leftover Chinese food takeout, and then probably call your mom.
It is a wonderfully pleasant read, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes shows like Jack Whitehall: Travels With My Father on Netflix, books like Missed Translations by Sopan Deb and movies from the 1980s.
